Prison service and the internet: from the viewpoint of an IT professional

Abstract

In this paper, we would like to present the results of our pilot research on the topic of ‘prisons and the use of internet’: we conducted semi-structured interviews with colleagues with experience in the field of IT, in order to find answers to the question of how far the practices used abroad can be transferred to the Hungarian Prison Service. It can be stated that providing access to digital technologies and the world wide web in the current system would only be achievable after reorganization and development, while it is necessary to do so, as the use of binary tools can better facilitate the reduction of isolation between the closed and the free world and the implementation of the principle of normalisation.
