Abstract

This article shows how introducing the field of eco-psychology in practical ways would affect the system of the Hungarian Prison Service. Eco-emotions influence both mental and physical health. Integrating an eco-psychological process into the psychological care of inmates could increase the establishment of responsibility related to the ecological crisis, thus contributing to the reintegration of inmates to society. Being aware of positive eco-emotions could help the inmates regulate their emotions more effectively. The duties of a prison psychologist include aiding the inmates in adapting to the prison environment and assisting re-socialization, for which working on their connection to nature might be an affective method.
