Abstract

Even though, geography of energy has been part of regional geography for more than half a century now, it has also been long considered that it is a subject area within the economic geography; thus, deeply buried in human geography. Being part of regional sciences, however, means it is an integrating subject and its own values should not be degraded to one side only. Lately, because of the growing importance of the energy resources and their environmental impact within many scientific fields, some geographers have begun to indicate geography of energy as an individual subject specialism based on its own merits. This simply means that it forms a strong bond between the two major branches of geography: the physical and human sides. In this sense, geography of energy is a bridge among the fields of geographical disciplines, and with such a high importance, need to be defined, and its roots and historical importance revealed. The main aim of this paper, however, is to amalgamate a large amount of information on the development of geography of energy, mostly at international, but also at Hungarian levels.
