Author Biographies

Péter Balogh, Watershed Movement

PÉTER BALOGH graduated from ELTE in geography and history teaching, and then obtained his absolutio in the Doctoral School of Earth Sciences in 2003. His research area is the relationship between man and nature, and making it sustainable, with special attention to the Tisza Plain. His research methodology is “becoming local”, in the spirit of which he moved to Nagykörű on the Middle Tisza River and started farming (since 2000). He carries out his geographer’s work in civil organizations, with the aim of presenting the nature of landscape management and adjusting policies. He is a founding member of the Association for a Élő Tisza, and the president of the Vízválasztó Movement.

Tibor Csathó , Életfa Environmental Protection Association

TIBOR CSATHÓ is an agricultural engineer with a degree in environmental and landscape management from the Faculty of Environmental Sciences of Szent István University in Gödöllő. Since 1997, he has been an intern, then an employee, and is currently the president of the Életfa Environmental Protection Association in Eger. Within the framework of the Association, he is the leader of the national tree planting program, the recently launched community nursery garden, urban and school gardens, food and seed self-determination, and old landscape varieties programs, a member of the Eger civil network, and the leader of the Civil Community House. He is a participant in the national Water Coalition group within the framework of their ÉLŐVÍZ (Bükk, Eger-patak) program launched in 2024, and one of the organizers of the "water" section of the Zöld OT in Salgótarján.

Erika Juhász, Centre for Ecological Research Institute of Ecology and Botany

ERIKA JUHÁSZ graduated as a biologist from the University of Szeged in 2017, and then obtained a PhD degree from the Doctoral School of Biology at ELTE in 2024. Her scientific interests focus on nature-human and landscape use conflicts. As a researcher, she mainly examines the effects of the landscape-transforming activities of the Eurasian beaver. As a civilian, she takes an active role in the organization and field actions of the VízŐrzők Movement.

Ferenc Réder , Vízválasztó Council

FERENC RÉDER obtained a degree in biological engineering from the Faculty of Chemical Engineering of the Budapest University of Technology (BME) in the field of granular sludge anaerobic wastewater treatment (Wageningen University of Agricultural Sciences). He was a teacher in rural areas for 22 years, took a specialist examination in quality assurance at the University of Economics, and from 2015 he has been an expert in water and nature conservation projects at the managing authority of EU programs. He took a public administration specialist examination at the Hungarian National University of Economics and Business and obtained a development policy consultant qualification. In his free time, he supports civil society movements such as Vízválasztó, Víz Koalíció, VízÓrzók, and often refers to himself as a ‘Hód Hívő’.
