Abstract

Present work summarizes the results of an invertebrate faunistical pre-research which has been carried out in the Mánfai-kőlyuk Cave (Mecsek mountains, Southwest Hungary). In the previous decades similar investigations took place, which resulted in the discovery of endemic and troglobiont species as well. The reason for my repeated survey was a sad fact: at the end of the 1950s waterworks started to utilize the cave’s spring which influenced the degradation of the natural conditions of the Mánfai-kőlyuk Cave. As a result of my samplings carried out between November 2010 and October 2011 I managed to point out the presence of only 18 higher invertebrate taxa. 16 species are already identified. Comparing this list with the data origined before waterwork’s utilization I found that 7 species are new for the cave’s fauna. These new species include more perturbated, urban habitat-dwelling fauna elements too. Among the previously described troglobiont species two have not been found. However, populations of Polycelis tothi Méhely, 1927, Bythiospeum hungaricum (Soós, 1927) and Protelsonia hungarica Méhely, 1924 still exist.
