Plant nomenclature in legislation and the protection of Hungarian vascular plant species
Abstract
Present study reviews the relationships between vascular plant names appear in Hungarian legislation and the actual protection of plant taxa and populations. Effects of typing errors, parallel inclusion of scientific and common names, knowledge on taxa, different senses of names, inclusion of supraspecific categories on the realisation of species protection are listed. Based on European legislations in force, proposals are given to reduce the chance of unimplemented protection because of misunderstanding laws.
