New perspectives in reintegration
The category system as a key element of progressivity
Abstract
This study examines the transformation of the Hungarian correctional system and the impact of the introduction of the category system. The categorisation system allows offenders to be categorised according to their risk levels and individual needs, facilitating targeted rehabilitation measures. The article provides a detailed analysis of the principles of correctional progressivity, based on gradual changes and personalised programmes, all the while it compares international trends and good practices. It also highlights the role of the Hungarian categorisation system as one of the newest and most important elements of progressivity, which contributes to the efficiency of the correctional system. The study highlights that, while the introduction of the categorisation system represents a significant step forward, it also presents a number of challenges.
