Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to explore the interrelationship between artificial intelligence (AI) and digital transformation and its impact on structural changes in the economy and industries. This paper employs a literature review methodology and presents a thorough literature assessment of the historical evolution and theoretical underpinning of artificial intelligence and digital transformation. Three historical phases of AI development are delineated, together with an examination of the strategic dimensions and problems associated with digital transformation. The paper highlights a mutually supporting interaction between artificial intelligence and digital transformation, stressing that artificial intelligence is a major driver of digital transformation, which then offers crucial infrastructure and data for the evolution of artificial intelligence. The combined consequences will greatly affect economic development and change industrial structure. The paper emphasises the necessity for organisations and decision-makers to proactively utilise the synergistic capabilities of AI and digital transformation. The necessity to tackle the issues of data management, security, privacy, and workforce alignment is underscored. This paper uniquely integrates the historical context and theoretical explorations of AI and digital transformation, providing foundational insights to guide future empirical research efforts.
