Absztrakt

The Christian virtue of hope had a long development during history. Examining hope, we must generally distinguish between passion and virtue, especially in the wake of Saint Thomas Aquinas. This distinction originates in the ancient philosophy of Rome and Greece and also in the Bible. However, nowadays this distinction is not very well known, namely, that Christian hope is also a divine gift and reveals the limits of natural hope. The passion of hope is the necessary human foundation of the divine virtue of hope. These dimen- sions of hope must be kept in view in theological enquiry and evangelisation.
