Abstract
Due to significant psychosocial effects on patients, hyperpigmentation is a common complaint in dermatological and aesthetic practices worldwide. There is a wide range of available topical, systemic and laser treatments of which an accurate diagnosis is essential before choosing a personalized protocol. Being aware of the differential diagnosis, the depth of the lesion is the base fo therapeutic efficacy. Due to frequent relapses the treatment of hyperpigmentation is often challenging and a prolonged cooperation between the patient and the dermatologist is required.
