Abstract
Secure password management is key to protecting sensitive data, ensuring the integrity of systems, preventing cyber-attacks, and meeting data protection regulations. With the rise of digital educational tools, students and teachers rely more and more on online learning platforms, student management systems, and digital communication channels. In addition, academic institutions manage and store a significant amount of sensitive data, such as student names, contact information, study records, or even health information. Weak passwords and bad password management habits can lead to unauthorized access, increasing the risk of data theft or other data misuse. Compromising passwords can also disrupt the learning-teaching process, for example, leading to unauthorized changes to assignments and grades or deception. Secure password management is, therefore, an important safeguard to reduce this type of risk. In 2023 and 2024, we asked university students from different disciplines twice about their internet account and password management habits. After comparing the results, there are significant gaps in the theoretical knowledge and awareness about safe password management among those interviewed.
