Dunaújváros környezeti állapota és települési környezetvédelmi programja
Abstract
The environmental responsibilities of local governments in Hungary are defined in Chapter IV of Act LIII of 1995 on the General Rules of Environmental Protection. These responsibilities include the preparation of a Municipal Environmental Protection Programme. The programme is adopted by the municipal assembly and is submitted for information to neighbouring and affected municipalities, while the competent environmental authority is invited to provide its professional opinion. The preparation of a Municipal Environmental Protection Programme also supports the fulfilment of several statutory environmental obligations of local governments as defined by environmental legislation, including:
– cooperation with environmental authorities, other municipalities, and civil organizations involved in environmental protection activities;
– analysis and assessment of the environmental status within the municipality’s jurisdiction, as well as informing the public about environmental conditions, when necessary, but at least once a year;
– integration of environmental considerations into development activities and promotion of measures aimed at improving environmental quality.
In 2025, the Municipal Environmental Protection Programme for the period 2025–2030 was completed and adopted by the local government. This paper presents the main chapters of the programme together with a concise assessment of the environmental status of the City of Dunaújváros.
