Investigation of the underreporting of people injured in bicycle accidents, based on hospital data
Abstract
Cycling is an increasingly common and widespread mode of transport today. Recognizing this, domestic and international transport policy treats the reduction of cycling accidents and the alleviation of cycling injuries as a priority area. Accident data analysis is essential for planning effective road safety interventions. However, the reliability of data analysis can be significantly impaired by the unreliability of the databases used for this purpose and the significant amount of accident and injury data that may be missing from them. Our aim was to examine the proportion of cyclists who suffered personal injury accidents and received hospital care that are included in the official accident database.References
