Abstract

Palatine Georgius Thurzó used the printed calendar part of the Schreibkalenders to count the time, and the notes written in it to record the events of his everyday life, in this way to account for time. However, no indication remained as to whether and in what way it used the texts and predictions of the prognosticons.

György Thurzó's diaries (from 1596, 1957, 1604, 1607, 1612) can basically interpreted as court diaries, but the regularities of travel diaries and personal diaries can also be discovered in the texts. The tradition of the diary writing can be observed in the family and the social network of Thurzó since the middle of the 16th century. Based on his letters written to his wife, I have a shrewd idea that from the end of the 16th century until his death in 1616, he wrote diaries or his scribes wrote his diaries. This is confirmed by the diary of Emericus Thurzó written in 1617, which clearly carries on the diary writing habits of Gerogius Thurzó, but in a somewhat more matured way.
