Order and cultural congruence of the elements in personal names for Jewish characters appearing in a Hungarian humour magazine entitled Borsszem Jankó in the first half of the 20th century  

This study is based on previous research, which examined the name stock referring to Jewish characters occurring in a Hungarian humour magazine entitled Borsszem Jankó between 1901 and 1937. This paper focuses on a new aspect of the analysis of the names in a humour magazine: the author discusses the cultural congruence between given names and family names, which proved to be a relevant factor in creating humour with names. In addition, the order of the elements in personal names is also examined. As for the cultural congruence, it can be ascertained that the Hungarian given names stand together with foreign (mostly German) family names for the most part, and the foreign given names appear together with Hungarian family names. Based on this examination the author draws attention to the relevance of this aspect in analysing name stocks of humour magazines in the future.
