Abstract

The European Society of Pathology (ESP), founded in 1964 and based in Brussels, is a prestigious professional association of European pathology organizations. Its activities aim to promote the continued development and high quality application of pathology science, to support advanced education and to foster cutting-edge applied and translational research aimed at understanding disease and translating pathology into clinical practice. A major event in the realization of these ambitions of the Society is the annual scientific congress, which in 2022 was hosted in Basel, Switzerland. The conference had highlighted the explosion of artificial intelligence (AI) solutions over the last decade, with breakthroughs in scientific data processing, medical image analysis, biomedical applications and many other areas. In this article, we present in an accessible way the highlights and lessons learned from the conference on the state of the art in pathology and artificial intelligence.
