Visual extract: Sustainable Nutrition and Health Awareness - A Reinterpretation of Hungarian Food Waste Data
Abstract
This article review examines trends in household food waste in Hungary between 2016 and 2024, drawing on data published by the National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih). The volume of avoidable food waste shows a marked decline, while potentially avoidable waste exhibits an upward trend, highlighting new challenges in consumer practices. The review also discusses how sustainability education can integrate these findings through school projects, awareness-raising activities, and competence-based learning. The paper concludes with recommendations for improving environmental education and strengthening sustainable behaviour among young people.
