EU legislation on critical raw materials and some related domestic aspects
Abstract
On 3 May 2024, the EU Critical Raw Materials Regulation (CRMA) was published, prioritising the management of critical raw materials from extractive to processing and recycling sectors. The CRMA deals in detail, among others, with the selection of strategic raw material projects, funding opportunities, research programmes in the Member States, licensing, the sharing of databases relevant to CRMA objectives, and the joint work of European authorities. The article briefly introduces some of the chapters of CRMA that support mineral resource management. In order to facilitate the implementation of the CRMA in Hungary, inventories of mineral resources and closed mine waste facilities managed by the Supervisory Authority for Regulatory Aff airs (SARA) and its legal predecessors is available. In addition, the related previous and current results of research activities both the SZTFH and the University of Miskolc can also signifi cantly contribute to the management of critical
raw materials in Hungary, and to establish further research programs or entrepreneurial initiatives.
