Effect of hydrogen (H2) on its metallic environment when stored underground
Abstract
If the steel product is in contact with a medium containing hydrogen atoms, hydrogen diffuses into the steel, where it can be reversibly or irreversibly bound at various trap sites. During the injection and withdrawal of hydrogen through the production tubing installed in the well, it has a mechanical, hydrogen embrittlement and leakage effect in its environment caused by corrosion and biochemical corrosion.
