Abstract

The importance of inclusion has grown over the past decades of educational sociology. The spectrum of social groups in focus of inclusion has broadened, so beside of children with special needs, sociocultural background, national and ethnic affiliation appeared among others. This paper aims to reconsider the relevance of certain social groups in connection to social exclusion in an empirical way, by examination of intergroup relations. This pilot research consists of a qualitative part (focusgroup interviews with teachers) and a quantitative part (survey research with children). Results show that the underperforming students of the educational system are mostly related to exclusion, however the relevance of obesed and „wierd” students have been highlighted, which draws the attention to the need of a deeper research of these groups
