Abstract

With the help of the material of the National Archives of Hungary, the paper analyses the documents about the soldiers’ councils, which existed between 30 October and 7 December 1956 at the Border Guard. It presents the relevant reports of the district commands, as well as indictments and court rulings. The author also elaborates on certain events separately. He discusses the election of the soldiers’ council in Nagykanizsa and presents the circumstances of the establishment of the soldiers’ councils, their actions and their impact on the activities of the then Border Guard.
