The Present and Future of the Hungarian Defense Forces

Abstract

Minister of Defence of Hungary Tibor Benkő (PhD) gave a lecture of the past, present and the future of Hungarian Defense Forces (HDF) in a conference organized by Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Hungarian Society of Military Science and National University of Public Service. The Minister of Defence had brought into prominence: the prime goal of HDF is to guarantee security and territorial integrity of the country. To completely answer the requirements of rapidly changing security-political atmosphere, the leadership of HDF had started the development and modernization of HDF based on the ten-years long National Defense and Armed Forces Development Program. Within this framework, all services and all branches will be comprehensively developed including air assets, armored vehicles and individual equipments. Moreover, following the security challenges, the legal environment and the organizational structure are also going to improve. Our mission is to build the Armed Forces, that are able to answer the challenges of 21th century. The end state is the HDF as a significant Army in the region that guarantee sovereignty of our country and ensure security of citizens of Hungary in our rapidly changing environment.
