Abstract

In this article the author demonstrates the reorganisation of the Hungarian People’s Army and the main trends of the developments after the defeating of the 1956 revolution and freedomfight until the end of December 1961. The tendency and requirements of the further transformation of the Hungarian People’s Army deaply determined the consultations between the Hungarian military delegations and the Soviet military leadership in Moscow from January 1957 until November − December 1960. Beside the developing of the land forces there was an insistence on the national anti-aircraft and the modernisation of the airwing and keeping on a high level of the alertness. It was a determine important event of the Hungarian People’s Army when ont he 1 of August in 1961 – just 50 years ago – there was established the 5. Headquaters of the Army. The comlete number of people of the Hungarian People’ Army exceeded the 92 500 member. This period of time created the most important structures, the basis of the further developments, but the replacement and modernisation of the military instruments were the tasks of the following years.
