Abstract

During the Second World War, 40 ton plus heavy battle tanks frequently played an importan role in combat tactics as long as a necessary fire-power could be ensured and an appropriate mobility could be maintained besides the high levels of shielding capability. Other than examining the balancing of the three capabilities, we also looked at the justification of further directions in developement and their relationship to the military traditions of the particular armies as well as the effect of Germany’s doubled manufacturing programs on military productivity and meeting demand.
