The past, present and future of talent development and nurturing a new generation of scientists in the field of military sciences, focusing on the role of the National Student Research movement II.
Abstract
The military career poses a number of challenges to those who have chosen to become officers as much as the pressure to comply with the standards of the scientific community poses to those who pursue activities in the scientific arena. In military higher education meeting the requirements in both of these areas requires increased effort from both in-structors and students. As a result of the decrease in the number of students and the switch to linear training over the past decade the supply of the next generation of scien-tists has dramatically declined, which may cause serious problems in the field of military sciences even in the medium term. The aim of this article is to highlight the importance of noticing talent among those who attend bachelor’s training in military higher education and starting developing it early on. Through the description of the history of the National Student Research movement and the achievements of military personnel so far, it aims to show the potential in this type of talent development.
