Guarding the state borders of Hungary during the Second World War

Abstract

The author presents border guarding in Hungary during the Second World War, and the preparations for it, partly on the basis of the documents of the Ministry of Defence in the Military Archives (Division 19 – border guarding). The paper discusses the changes in the national borders of Hungary during the period under study, as well as the political objectives involved. The reorganisation, organisational structure of border guard units, their border guarding activities, equipment, management system and the main objectives of border guarding are described.
