What role can probiotics play in the eradication of helicobacterpylori?
Abstract
Helicobacter pylori (Hp) is a worldwide epidemiological problem, as approximately half of the population is affected by this infection. In Hungary, the rate of infected people is “only” around 30%. Given the current complaints and long-term harmful consequences, eradication of Hp is recommended. According to the currently valid recommendations, triple or quadruple combination treatment is suggested for this. Supplementing the treatment with probiotics, the therapy will be more effective, the side effects of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) and antibiotics will be reduced, the patient's cooperation will be better, Hp resistance will not increase and probiotics containing several good bacterial strains, when used after treatment, will reestablish the normal intestinal flora.
