Onomastic manuscripts at the Library of the Department of Hungarian and General Linguistics in Babeş–Bolyai University, Cluj-Napoca, Romania
This paper discusses the position of Onomastics in the curriculum of Hungarian higher education in Cluj Napoca, an essential component of which is the widely-known research programme examining Transylvanian dialects. The author outlines the potential of Onomastics in the earlier traditional and today’s Bologna system of education, both of which include the discipline as an elective course as well as an optional research topic in master’s and doctoral theses. At present, Onomastics is an elective course for third-year BA students. The paper also presents the results of Onomastic research achieved in master’s and doctoral theses as well as in first-level scientific methodological essays in the teachers’ further education programme. Onomastic manuscripts are listed in a systematized bibliography in the paper. The bibliography, focusing on topics, locality and alphabetic order, enumerates approximately 200 items, in the following subdivisions: 1 Place names, 2 Personal names, 3 Names for animals, 4 Several name types, 5 Applied Onomastics, 6 History of Onomastics.
