Finding new paths - a solution for safer fire fighting deployments

Abstract

Technological progress constantly encourages the researchers of the fire protection to find out new solutions in order to follow the new challenges of the 21st century. The safety of the interveners was always very important, but it also caused many difficulties. This is especially true for smoke-filled buildings, where the visibility is zero or nearly zero. During an intervention the getting lost, the loss of air and the sudden changes of the circumstances mean an increased riks. So it is not surprising, that there have been many ideas about how the firefighters working inside the building could be supervised from outside. Researchers of ADAPT Center for Digital Content Technology have recently introduced a new development which is the Pathfinder system. It offers a new solution to this problem.
