Humanitárius fejlesztés vagy kulturális imperializmus?
A nemzetközi önkéntesség interkulturális vonatkozásai és hatásai magyar önkéntesek reflexiói alapján
Absztrakt
A nemzetközi önkéntesség kiemelt szerepet játszik a nemzetközi fejlesztésben, mivel interkulturális közvetítő intézményként működik a küldő és a fogadó országok és közösségek között, biztosítva a humanitárius és fejlesztési programok megvalósításához szükséges humán kereteket. A nemzetközi önkéntesség leggyakrabban nemzetközi NGO-k és transznacionális szervezetek (pl. ENSZ, EU) célkitűzései alapján a humanitárius programokat alakítja helyi fejlődéssé a tevékenységek helyi koordinálásán, tudástranszferen, képzéseken és az önkéntesek fizikai munkavégzésén keresztül. Tanulmányomban a nemzetközi önkéntesség interkulturális sajátosságait, összetevőit és hatásait vizsgáltam meg 21 visszatért magyar nemzetközi önkéntes személyes tapasztalatain keresztül. Kutatói célom annak feltárása, hogy mennyire felel meg a magyar önkéntesség a vele szemben támasztott új kihívásoknak. A résztvevőkkel felvett szakmai mélyinterjúk négy kérdéskört érintettek, az 1) interkulturális szempontok megjelenése az önkéntesek motivációjában, a 2) megtapasztalt helyi szokások és nehézségek azonosítása és kezelése, a 3) kulturális imperializmus jelenléte, valamint az 4) önkéntesség fogadó félre gyakorolt hatásának értékelése. A vizsgálat legfontosabb megállapítása, hogy a magyar önkéntesek jelentős része tudatosan készült és kezelte az interkulturális kihívásokat, és részben felismerték saját kulturális felelősségüket is. Főleg a magyar kezdeményezésű fejlesztési projektek helyeztek nagy hangsúlyt az interkulturális előkészítésre és a helyi elvárásoknak való megfeleltetésre.
