Abstract

Changes in the orthography of proper names

The 11th edition of the “Code of Orthographic Rules of the Hungarian Language” was published in 1984 and it is still in use. Changes in the past 25 years call for modifications in Hungarian orthographic rules, so the Committee on Hungarian Linguistics of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences has prepared the plan of the 12th edition of the code, which was debated in an open session on the 4th of July, 2008 at ELTE University. This paper discusses suggested changes in the orthography of proper names.
