Abstract

On the 1st of September, 2014 in the early evening there was an intensive downpour on the hills and fields in the vicinity of the settlement of Rád. At 18.45 the headquarters of the fire Brigade of the city of Vác was alerted that huge amounts of water were rushing past 5 Vay Ádám Street, along a dried-out brook, flooding the streets and threatening private houses. By 19.00 the first professional squad arrived at the spot and started to explore the location. They
diagnosed that an enormous amount of sludge and sediments from the river was flowing onto the streets. The flood was moving from the direction of the high-lying fields, via the low-lying streets at the foot of the hills.
