Main tasks of disaster management system related to damages caused by inland waters

Abstract

In Hungary there is a significant area affected by inland waters, as a primary endangering natural effect on resources of citizens. Protection against inland waters is a multiplayer activity in our country, made by the state, the municipalities, and water companies together. The professional organizations of water management (General Directorate of Water Management, and the 12 directorates) have a prominent role. Nevertheless - dispite of the above - the National Directorate General of Disaster Management and its subordinates perform significant activities in order to minimize risks, as well as damages arising from inland waters. The aim of these article is to introduce tasks of prevention and protection assigned to central, regional and local level of our disaster management system.
