Basic infrastructural requirements for the temporary accomodation of disaster victims and the functioning of an NGO

Keywords: disaster, refugees, civil protection, NGOs, humanitarian aid

Abstract

The increasing frequency of disasters and crises poses serious challenges to society in the countries concerned, as well as to the prevention, response and recovery organisations and civil society organisations involved. This is primarily due to the large number of refugees affected and the limited infrastructure and resources of the host countries. Anything that could endanger human life, damage community values and increase social vulnerability can only be prevented and countered by integrating the capacities of national and international institutions and instruments. State-led bodies, in partnership with civil society organisations, can provide the necessary infrastructure for the temporary accommodation and care needs of displaced people until they can return to their homes or establish a stable new livelihood in their host environment.
