New media opportunities in disaster management
Abstract
The reasons for inducing disasters became more intensive, therefore it is extremely important to communicate with people efficiently. People are capable of obtaining some pieces of information within minutes with the help of internet in the world today and as a result, online services have become an indispensable part of our daily life. One of the most detrimental impacts of online services is that online services comprise tremendous amount of data that are scanty, irrelevant, distorted in accordance with reality and conceal the whole truth. Therefore, I suppose that communication can be more efficient if the possibilities are entirely made the best use in accordance with the wishes of people via the Internet in order to be able to obtain some pieces of information that are authentic, rapid and appropriate. In the study, the authors examined it the official website, the online magazine and different social networking sites, used by professional disaster management, with special regard to the YouTube channel of the National Disaster Management Directorate of the Ministry of the Interior.
