Increasing safety and development opportunities for firefighter interventions on expressways

Abstract

The author of the publication examines the increase in safety and technical development possibilities of interventions on expressways, mainly by fire fighters, proposing development options whose application can promote efficient and, above all, safe intervention activities. In the publication, the author carried out an investigation and also recommends practices, the dissemination of which can increase the chances of survival of persons in an emergency on expressways, and make the efficiency of the interveners more effective. Let's think about why on domestic expressways we rarely see drivers creating a so-called rescue lane for vehicles with blue lights during traffic jams. A solution to this could be the placement of incentive signs on the crossing bridges and overpasses, with which the arrival time of vehicles using distinctive sound and light signals can be reduced by eliminating congestion. The principle of proportionality also works here: the sooner an intervention unit arrives, the more the chance of survival of those in danger increases. In the publication, the author proposes the use of technical tools and additional practices that can make the work of the interventionists easier, thereby making it more efficient, safer and more professional.
