The setting-based approaches of health promotion activities
Abstract
Setting for health is a place or social context in which people engage in daily activities in which environmental, organizational and personal factors interact to affect health and well-being. The advantage of setting-based health promotion is that any professional initiatives to support people's health and well-being can appear as part of the same process. The Healthy Cities programmewas the first initiative where the World Health Organization(WHO)has introduced the setting approach. Based on its experiences, health promotion activities were appeared in several different settings as well. The lessons learned from the past three decades have shown that setting-based approach can result in integrative and multisectoral collaboration in many settings.
