Documents and data from the period of establishment of the Hungarian Geological Society
„Elegyengették az utat, mely a társulatot életre hívni volt hivatva”
Abstract
The idea of establishing a “geological society of miners” was raised by Keresztély András Zipser (Christian Andreas Zipser) in 1847 at the 8th General Meeting of Hungarian Physicians and Naturalists held in Sopron. The idea, which was met with widespread approval, culminated in the founding of the Hungarian Geological Society—a milestone achieved after a three-year process spanning from August 11, 1847, to July 6, 1850. The society continues to operate to this day. The process of establishment is presented here, based partly on the relevant literature, and partly on documents newly discovered by the author.
