Abstract

This paper presents the concept of classification and the main characters of giant crude oil and gas fields but the main
focus is on conventional giant fields only. More detailed descriptions are given of such fields. The respective locations of
the main fields are shown in figures, while their main characters are presented in tables. Details of plate-tectonic setting,
basin type and the frequency of giant fields are summarized. Some of the most important fields are described in more
detail. The depletion of giant fields and the quantitative indicators of their progression are also discussed. An overview
of the role of giant fields in the future production of crude oil and natural gas follows this discussion. The most important
conclusions are summarized.
