Classification of loesses and palaeosols on the hasis of sedimentological and geochemical parameters interpreted with the help of fuzzy set theory

Abstract

Loesses and palaeosols can be ranked into sediment categories and sediment types on the basis of
certain sedimentological and geochemical parameters according to their weathering and pedogenetic
conditions. These categories do not differ sharply from one other and in many cases overlap or more
often occupy an intermediate position. The categorisation of loesses and palaeosols can be demonstrated
through the fuzzy set theory using mathematical methods. The primary purpose of this paper is the
presentation of this method.
