Abstract

In SE Hungary several hundred of wells crossed up to 1 km thick Late Miocene – Pliocene lacustrine sequence containing numerous lignite and subbituminous coal layers. This work presents a method for assessing the amount of biogenic methane generated in these lignites/coals. Archive Rock-Eval Oxygen Index data are used for assessment.
