Ethics Statement

Porta Lingua is committed to upholding, promoting and disseminating fundamental professional standards and ethical guidelines at every stage of the publication process. The journal adheres to the Core Practices of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Core Practices of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and to the recommendations of the Council of Science Editors, (Recommendations for Promoting Integrity in Scientific Journal Publications). It expects all participants in its publication processes, including authors, editors and reviewers, to comply with the principles set out in these documents and to follow the recommendations of COPE.

Handling Violations of Ethical Principles

When submitting manuscripts, authors are required to declare the originality of their work. Submitted manuscripts are subject to plagiarism screening. If there is suspicion that any of the above principles have been violated, the case must be investigated, with all parties concerned being notified and given the opportunity to state their position and exercise their legitimate right of defence.

In cases of negligence, lack of due care or unintentional misconduct, any proven error must be corrected, and the party responsible must be warned about the unethical conduct. In serious cases, the publication of the manuscript concerned must be reviewed and, where appropriate, withdrawn. The severity of the ethical violation is determined by the editorial office, in consultation with and with notification of the Editorial Board and the parties concerned.

Handling Conflicts of Interest and Ensuring Transparency

If the responsible editor, editor-in-chief, or copy editor of Porta Lingua submits a manuscript to the journal, they may not participate in the review process for their own article, appoint the reviewers, or make the final decision regarding publication, in order to safeguard the impartiality of the journal. In such cases, another editor takes over the handling of the manuscript. The double-blind peer review process is conducted in the same way as for all other authors, and the responsible publisher, editor-in-chief, editor or copy editor is likewise required to prepare a list of the changes made in response to the reviewers’ comments. In this matter, too, the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) concerning independent and impartial review shall apply.
