Aims & Scope
The mission of Egészségfejlesztés is to promote professional communication between different fields within healthcare and other sectors, and to contribute to improving the quality of health promotion and public health in Hungary and internationally, thereby supporting better population health.
The journal publishes articles on the theory of health promotion and public health, as well as on Hungarian and international practice. It is intended for all those who are directly or indirectly involved in health promotion, including not only healthcare professionals but also professionals from other sectors, such as education and social services.
The journal was launched in 1960 under the title Egészségügyi Felvilágosítás and was published from 1976 as Egészségnevelés. Its founders, Dr János Métneki and Dr Gyula Vimon, regarded the journal as the intellectual successor to Egészség, which had been published from 1887 as the official journal of the National Public Health Association. The journal has been published under the title Egészségfejlesztés since 2004.
In 2016, the journal was renewed. As part of this renewal, it moved to electronic publication and became the first Hungarian public health journal to publish only peer-reviewed original articles. In addition to original articles, the journal also publishes news, developments, items of interest, reports, and opinion pieces from the field of health promotion.
Egészségfejlesztés publishes two issues per year, one in May and one in November, and occasionally publishes thematic special issues.
Published articles are made available under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License. Further details are provided in the journal’s Information on Copyright and Licensing.
The editorial office of Egészségfejlesztés is committed to the secure long-term preservation of its electronically published content. In addition to storage on its own servers, all published articles – including their metadata, text, audiovisual material, and other content – are deposited in the REAL-J repository of the Library of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
Articles published in Egészségfejlesztés are available open access, free of charge.
The journal is managed by the editorial office, including the work of the editorial board.
The journal is published by the National Centre for Public Health and Pharmacy, which fully covers the costs of publication. The journal has no other sources of income, does not engage in marketing activities, and does not publish paid advertisements.
