Characteristics of inter- and intralingual translation’s equivalence in translation for specific purposes

Abstract

Nowadays there is an increasing demand for the knowledge of the professionals or experts in a – simple but not too simple - form which is understandable and comprehensible by the laymen. In the scene of international communication interlingual translation provides a way to share the knowledge of professionals, whereas the goal of intralingual translation is to enable knowledge transfer between the experts and the masses of society. Stemming from their distinct functions, these two types of translation can be described by different equivalence relations. Therefore it is necessary to introduce the novel term of ’equivariance of intralingual translations’  to the field of scientific translation, to the research of linguistics for LSP. This definition (i.e., terminus technicus) is examinable both in itself and in the form of comparisons with the equivalence of translational features regarding two different languages. In both cases the result is a unique equivalence interpretation of intralingual translation.

Given the challenges of the 21st century, such as conservation of nature, pandemics, the energy crisis and other problems affecting the whole of humanity, research directed towards the equivalence of intralingual translation is a primary goal. Advances in the field would enable in the scenes of communication outside of the professional scene the minimization of communicational losses and the effective distribution of knowledge for the laymen.
