MACALC: A program for supporting modal analysis of rocks
Abstract
Modal analysis is a basic pétrographie practice for the determination of the mineralogical composition
and grain-size distribution of rocks. Amongst the techniques of modal analysis the authors regard the
modified Rosiwal's method of measuring along lines as the optimal one. The software tool Modal
Analysis Calculator (MACALC) which is introduced in this paper evaluates computational recorded data.
It gives the minimal measuring length for the required accuracy and compiles tables for representing the
results of the measurement. The program works as a World Wide Web (WWW) service: beside internetaccess only a web browser is necessary to use it.
