Miksa Hantken, director of the Geological Institute
Abstract
Fundation of the Royal Hungarian Institute of Geology (1869) is a milestone on the organized geological research of the country. Despite all initial difficulties, its first director, Miksa Hantken, successfully linked the practical and scientific goals of the Institute. Under his leadership, the Institute laid the scientific base for the geological structure of the country. He launched a series of publications of the Institute of Geology spanning almost a century and half, and has gained international recognition for its activity.
