Phymatoceratidae (Ammonitina) fauna from the Lower Jurassic of the Gerecse Mts (Hungary)
Abstract
In this paper, the taxonomic problems of the family Phymatoceratidae, represented by five genera (Phymatoceras, Furloceras, Denckmannia, Mouterdeiceras, Haugia) and 23 species, are briefly discussed. The fauna described here from the Middle Toarcian ammonite assemblage of the Gerecse Mts (NE Transdanubian Range) consists of both Mediterranean and NW European taxa. The assemblage is allied to the Submediterranean border zones of the
Mediterranean Province (Mediterran–Caucasian Realm).
